This indicator shows the average proficiency score in numeracy skills, based on results from the OECD's Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). The EU average score is around 270; the lowest country score is around 250 and the highest 280. Numeracy is defined as the ability to access, use, interpret and communicate mathematical information and ideas in order to engage in and manage the mathematical demands of a range of situations in adult life. The indicator is also available for the younger population (16-24 year-olds).
Note: For most countries, PIAAC survey was carried out in 2012. Additional three countries were added in 2014: Greece, Lithuania and Slovenia.
