WIFO is Austria's leading institute for applied empirical economic research. The WIFO mission is building bridges between theory, empirical research and politics. The findings of its research activities are designed for use as foundations for economic policy and entrepreneurial decision-making and to elevate the economic policy dialogue to an objective level. In WIFO there are five research groups: Macroeconomics and European Economic Policy Labour Market, Income and Social Security Industrial Economics, Innovation and International Competition, Structural Change and Regional Development, Environment, Agriculture and Energy. WIFO's position as a mediator requires it to delimit itself against and arrive at a work-sharing arrangement with economic policy institutions, universities and consultants. Furthermore, the Institute acts as a national contact point for international institutions like the IMF, OECD, EC as well as for international rating agencies (Moody's, Standard&Poors, etc.) concerning national economic developments and the effects of economic policy measures. WIFO offers a wide range of publications and data. In the portal there are available monthly analysis of current economic developments in Austria and the major OECD countries, quarterly economic forecast and a full set of tables listing approximately 300 macroeconomic indicators. Furthermore WIFO bulletin focuses on International and Austrian economic outlooks, recent economic developments, and studies on European integration. Discussion papers by WIFO staff, consultants and guests, press releases and monographs can provide a detailed approach of WIFO’s contribution.
